Casa Favignana has moderate temperatures, with cold nights and cool days. Houses in the area are designed to maximize natural heat through strategic orientation and careful use of materials.
The relationship between sun and shadows plays a crucial role in these designs, with buildings often positioned to capture the sun’s heat during the day. Large north-facing windows allow sunlight to enter and warm interior spaces, while thicker, insulated walls retain heat after sunset.
Eaves and terraces are strategically located to block the strong midday sun while allowing solar penetration during early morning and afternoon when temperatures are lower. Materials like stone, clay, and adobe are used for their thermal mass properties, which help store the sun’s heat and release it gradually throughout day and night.
This design approach reduces the need for artificial heating, improving energy efficiency and creating comfortable, eco-friendly homes that harmonize with Tabio’s natural environment.
